Scholarships for Women

Since its founding in the year 2001, The Emerge Scholarship Program has granted more than $100,000 in scholarship awards to women. Each year there are only a small number of winners out of the many hundreds of persons who apply for these scholarships. A specially appointed selection committee for the program chooses the winners of these scholarships. There are various things that this committee takes into consideration when it is choosing the winners for these scholarships.

Not only are these scholarships strictly for women, but the committee prefers to select only those women who are pursuing their educational goals in the state of Georgia. There are many different kinds of women that the committee mainly focuses on, such as women who are nontraditional students of whose educational goals were either delayed or interrupted for one reason or another. Women with a strong determination and will to succeed are highly favored by the committee. Women who do not quit despite the many obstacles that can often be thrown in one’s path are also highly favored. They are particularly interested in choosing not only women who are active members in their communities but also those women whose passions agree not only with their educational but their career goals, as well.

Ideal candidates for these scholarships include women who are returning to school after a break from work or school, women who may want to change their existing careers, women who want to move forward in their jobs and stay-at-home moms who have decided that they would like to begin a career. These scholarships are not for those women who have either recently graduated from high school, or for women who are eligible for or have already received any other form of financial aid. Any money that one may receive from The Emerge Scholarship Program must be used strictly for tuition, fees and school supplies only. To ensure that the students follow this rule, these scholarship checks are directly made out to the school, itself.

The funds are then deposited into an account that is set up for the student, and they are to be spent only on tuition, fees and school supplies which are to be purchased at the school. Cash can not be withdrawn from this account, and there are positively no exceptions to this rule for anybody. The amounts of these scholarships and the total number of them available to students each year varies from year to year.
